On Wednesday, Apple rolled out its latest software update for iPhone and iPad.

iOS 11.2.1 fixes a security issue with Apple’s HomeKit service which potentially allowed hackers to gain access to smart-home devices, such as lights, thermostats, garage door openers and even smart locks.

HomeKit is Apple’s software framework that lets users configure and control all their smart-home devices using a single app. The vulnerability, first reported by 9to5Mac, meant that unauthorized remote access to HomeKit devices could be gained by exploiting a software bug in iOS 11.2. Although the vulnerability was reportedly difficult to reproduce, the possibility that an educated hacker could potentially unlock your front door was obviously something that Apple needed to address.

If you’re a HomeKit user we recommend installing this important update to ensure your devices are secure. You can install by tapping Settings > General > Software Update.
