In this article we show you what to do if Certo AntiSpy does not have access to your backup folder.

The Problem

When trying to scan a backup on Apple computers running MacOS Mojave or later, you may receive a warning that Certo AntiSpy does not have access to your backups.


The Cause

The latest versions of MacOS protect certain folders on your hard disk to ensure malicious apps can’t access your data. One of these folders is the default backup location. You’ll need to grant permission for the software to access this folder in order to scan your backups.


The Solution

Follow these instructions to grant Certo AntiSpy permission to access your backup folder:

> For macOS Mojave to macOS Monterey
> For macOS Ventura and later

For macOS Mojave to macOS Monterey

  1. Open System Preferences and click Security & Privacy.

  1. Click the Privacy tab.

  1. Select Full Disk Access on the left-hand side.

  1. Click the padlock in the bottom left to make changes. Enter your password if prompted.

  1. Click + to add Certo AntiSpy to the list.

  1. Browse to the Applications folder, select Certo AntiSpy and click Open.

  1. Restart Certo AntiSpy if prompted.

For macOS Ventura and later

  1. Open System Settings and click Privacy & Security.

  1. Select Full Disk Access from the list.

  1. Click + to add Certo AntiSpy to the list. Enter your password if prompted.

  1. Browse to the Applications folder, select Certo AntiSpy and click Open.

  1. Restart Certo AntiSpy if prompted.
